Cath Currie of Positive PD is an Accredited Consultant and provider of Dr Edward de Bono’s Thinking Tools Courses. Working closely in alliance with Atkey Solutions, the sole UK distributor of de Bono in Education, we deliver the full range of thinking tools coaching within the education and family sectors for managers, teachers, parents and students.
The de Bono toolkit approach allows users to develop simple yet highly effective tools which build confidence, competence and structure to planning, problem-solving and creativity. The de Bono thinking toolkit is a range of tangible, transferable techniques for good, effective thinking relevant to all life situations. It is equally empowering in study and pastoral activities.
‘Perhaps the most important benefit from teaching thinking is the increase in self-esteem and self-confidence of those taught. A youngster taught thinking feels in control of his or her life – instead of feeling like a cork carried along by the stream of life and controlled by the currents.’ Edward de Bono
Six Thinking Hats®
Have you ever sat through a meeting and wondered why it failed to involve everyone and/or could not reach a successful conclusion? Western society has an adversarial culture which can prevent good thinking and undervalue individual input. The outcome of this is that people become disengaged and/or disaffected and group output is seriously restricted.
Six Thinking Hats® legitimises and values different viewpoints and separates out the strands of thinking, giving due recognition and value to each. It uses parallel thinking to promote win-win rather than conflict. Groups become more focused and involved whilst using time more effectively. At an individual level the Hats approach provides a structure to focus on different aspects of an issue thus bringing perspective and perception to the fore. The Six Hats provide metaphorical image cues for types and strands of thinking.
